Conference

On Feb 16-17, 2010, nearly 60 participants from southeast Arizona convened to discuss the future of a healthy, working local food system at the Healthy Food, Healthy Future gathering in Dragoon, Arizona. The gathering was sponsored by the Community Food Bank and the Community Food Resource Center with support from WhyHunger Grassroots Action Network.

Somos la Semilla was formed from this conference.

The Gathering resulted in a group with it's own identity Somos La Semilla, We Are the Seed emerged as a metaphor to describe the participants and beginning of organizing our work together in the region. Somos la Semilla is a network of grassroots groups, organizations, funders, farmers, and clinics in Arizona-Sonora borderlands working together to grow our future through healthy food systems.
